One of my big personal discoveries in the past twenty years was starting to discover a sense of purpose. This discovery began with a men’s weekend–the New Warrior Training Adventure, part of the Mankind Project. This sense of purpose has worked for me like a compass providing a general, overarching sense of direction when I am at home with my family, at work or involved with my community. I want to emphasize that this is not necessarily a once-and-for-all discovery–at least it hasn’t worked that way for me. Some may be suddenly struck blind or experience a sudden conversion to a religion or political vision. For me it’s been more of an ongoing internal dialogue: what’s important for me from this place, and how to I get there.
This is a “home page,” and I like to think of a sense of purpose as a little like the sense of direction of home for a homing pigeon, no matter where he/she is.
This blog will be my soapbox on this issue, an opportunity for me to share my own reflections on mission and purpose. I hope you contribute to the discussion.
